The New System...Waiting on Jehovah.... and Acceptance
by ScoobySnax ini was sitting in the garden having a beer with my dad this afternoon, it was a beautiful warm spring day, and we chatted away .......it's a good thing, my dad and me haven't always got on.
i think he thinks i'm not the son he held a 3 day party for when i was born, at least i didn't turn out like he'd hoped.
you see he's a mans man.

I just had to go and congratulate this guy.
by Holey_Cheeses*King_of_the juice. infor his initiative, his enthusiasm, and his courage.. the story.
my wife and i have just returned from a couple of days in toowoomba (an inland city west of brisbane in oz) and whilst visiting we discovered that the australian gospel music festival was being held there over easter.
for our education we decided to visit the site (no cost involved - only for the music venues, all of which were in the same location spread throughout a large park).

Yeah. It takes a lot to stand up for truth, especially when you are putting yourself on the line against the beliefs of a "great crowd". I'd have congratulated him, too.

Crap that hurts! Talking to an ex-LDS
by Qcmbr ini just got an email from someone who played a really formative part of my life who's since left the lds church (my rose tinted spectacles) and it really hurts.
this is why i don't go to ex-lds sites.
its wierd - a lot of you as posters are at the other end of the tunnel - having left/escaped - but it sure as heck feels gut wrenching when your still 'in' and someone you care about leaves.

Qcmbr--- It's good that you have questioned/researched, but those things are only as effective as your level of open-mindedness. The fact that you read piece after piece exposing the dishonesty of the Church, yet emerge with even stronger belief shows that you are afraid to objectively consider the facts. Any literate person can read an article, but someone with a strong predisposition such as your own will not have truly considered the evidence without first suspending his belief system.
You say you are an elder trying to find what makes people leave their religion behind, so you can better help those in your care. Wouldn't that be better accomplished where the abandoned religion is the same as the one you are trying to defend? You say you would spend your time there preaching. Isn't that your God-given responsiblity? That knot in your stomach should be a red flag that something is causing you to be afraid. You are either afraid to help these "lost sheep", or you are afraid that they will crack your precious belief shell.
Your question regarding the fate of homosexuals will be answered when you stop living by someone else's pre-packaged belief system and start thinking for real.

I understand she was awarded $30 million of it for damages sustained from owning the name "Susan Sosin". That's gotta suck.

Best beer= Harpoon I.P.A., brewed right here in New England
Worst beer= Previously opened keg of Natty Ice left in the back yard for at least the month of July. Accepted a dare to do a 10-second kegstand. Wow.

Oh, and Gumby, don't forget that Mr. Cuke likes to subtly deride the WTS, while at the same time happily remaining a member of a similar cult. I'd like some answers too, before I make an uninformed judgement. So, Q, why do you post here?

Example of bait-and-switch logic.
by Spook infrom the watchtower website article on propaganda:.
"however, we do not want to be so narrow that we refuse to consider facts that can improve our thinking.
how can we find the right balance?

He properly weighs such new information against the Bible standard and fits what is true into his pattern of thinking. On the other hand, his mind sees the danger of information that is entirely inconsistent with his Bible-based values."
Anyone that truly lived this way could not become a Witness, as he would see how poorly the WTS understands the bible. How can one be open-minded if the bible is seen as the ultimate source of wisdom. It seems the learning would end right there. More wonderfully deceptive words from our friends in New York.

Out of context Watchtower quotes -- join in, have fun!
by AlmostAtheist inthe watchtower is constantly pulling quotes out of context and distorting the original author's meaning.
why not give them a taste of their own poison?
here's a few to get you started: .

"Jehovah's Witnesses are...changing...Jesus Christ's mandate to his disciples. Observers of Jehovah's Witnesses have found no evidence that this...community has ever been a force...of...good. Jehovah's Witnesses...are taught to...harm others."

P.S. Check out the last few sentences of this article on their website, where they quote World book on the difference between propaganda and education and try to paint themselves as open-minded educators in favor of free thought.

This has to be the lamest topic in a while. I heard they both accept personal checks as well! I'd better dry clean a suit so I can go to the meeting tonight and beg Hober for forgiveness!
